SSCN aims to

SSCN plays a key role in fostering progress for stem cell therapies in Scotland, SSCN aims to:

  • Develop and consolidate Scotland’s reputation as a key player in stem cell biology;
  • Create an environment to support collaborative links between research scientists and clinicians in the field;
  • Engage the private sector in the development of stem cell technology;
  • Engage and inform the general public in stem cell debate;
  • Develop national and international links with other centres of excellence.

SSCN successes to date

SSCN has been very successful to date. We have:

  • Built an international membership of over 1000 including scientists, clinicians, academics and representatives from the public and private sectors
  • Held events and workshops on topics such as pancreatic islet cells, EU clinical trials directive, protection of Intellectual Property, cancer stem cells and rejection, legal and ethical issues
  • Developed a website with a detailed knowledge base of stem cell facts, articles and debate
  • Helped to overcome barriers to the effective exploitation of stem cell research through informing, influencing and lobbying key stakeholders
  • Promoted Scotland’s activities both nationally and internationally at a range of conferences, events and gatherings, helping to position Scotland as world-class leaders in the field of stem cell research.
