The Regenerative Medicine industry promises innovative new treatments for the millions of people who live with conditions, such as Alzheimer’s and MS, and for which there is no current therapy.
Today, the market is estimated at $1.5bn and is dominated by a few large companies such as Geron, however, there is an enormous amount of activity, with hundreds of new companies being formed and over 2000 clinical trials underway around the world. This growth rate is leading forecasters to predict a market size of $100bn by 2020 (Life Science Intelligence 2009).
Scotland is a global leader in Regenerative Medicine which developed following the creation of the first cloned mammal, Dolly the sheep, in 1996.
On a global scale Scotland ranks:

Over $1bn has been invested in facilities, infrastructure and support networks with over 20 new companies formed to exploit this sector.
